Trezor.io/Start⁕⁕ — Starting Up Your Device™ — Trezor®
This short presentation walks you through powering, initializing, securing, and verifying your Trezor hardware wallet. The content uses clear headings (H1–H5), accessible layout, and full colour styling for professional display or conversion to PowerPoint.
1 — Unboxing & First Look
What's in the box
Check the sealed packaging, authenticity hologram, and included items: the Trezor device, USB cable, recovery card, and quick-start guide. Keep packaging until setup completes.
Tip
Use original cable
Always use the included cable or a high-quality USB cable — bad cables cause connection errors during firmware updates.
2 — Power & Connect
Powering up
Connect your Trezor to a computer using the provided cable. The device boots to a welcome screen prompting you to open trezor.io/start.
Note
If your computer blocks the site, make sure to type the URL exactly: trezor.io/start
.
3 — Install Trezor Bridge / Suite
Choose your method
Use the web-based flow at trezor.io/start which guides you to install Trezor Bridge or Trezor Suite depending on your OS. Follow on-screen prompts to allow browser-to-device communication.
Security
Only download official software from trezor.io. Verify digital signatures when available.
4 — Firmware & Device Validation
Update firmware
If a firmware update is required, the official app will guide you. Allow firmware installs only when the device displays matching instructions — never install unknown firmware.
Hygiene
After firmware update, the device displays a unique fingerprint — confirm it on the website to ensure authenticity.
5 — Create a New Wallet
Initialize
Select "Create new" when prompted. The device will generate a recovery seed (typically 12–24 words). Write these words down on the recovery card in the exact order.
Never digitize
Do not take photos, screenshots, or store your seed on devices or cloud storage — physical-only storage is safest.
6 — Confirm Your Recovery Seed
Verification step
The device will ask you to confirm selected words from your written seed. This verifies you copied them correctly and prevents setup mistakes.
Extra protection
Consider using a steel backup plate for long-term protection against fire, water, and time.
7 — Set a PIN
Why a PIN
Set a PIN directly on the device. The PIN protects against physical attacks; choose a non-trivial code and never share it. Trezor devices offer an optional passphrase for additional security.
Recovery + PIN
If your device is lost but seed + PIN are safe, you can recover funds on a new device. If either is lost, funds are at risk.
8 — Add Accounts & Receive Funds
Adding crypto accounts
Use Trezor Suite to add accounts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, tokens). Each account displays a receive address; always verify the address on the device screen before sharing.
Small test transfer
Send a small test transaction first to confirm the setup works before transferring large amounts.
9 — Best Practices & Ongoing Care
Maintain good habits
- Keep firmware updated from official sources.
- Store seeds offline and separately from the device.
- Use passphrases for high-value holdings.
Social engineering
Never reveal your seed or PIN to anyone claiming to be support. Trezor support will never ask for your seed.
10 — Recovery & Emergency Procedures
Lost or damaged device
If your device is lost or damaged, obtain a new compatible hardware wallet and recover your wallet using the recovery seed in the correct order. If you suspect the seed was compromised, move funds to a new wallet immediately.
Final checklist
Re-check: device authenticity, firmware, written seed, secure storage, and verified receive addresses.
